Laser Neutralization of Explosive Devices

Purpose

Soft laser neutralization (burning with
possible avoidance of detonation) of
all types of explosive devices
(landmines, Improvised Explosive
Devices, UneXplosed Ordnance,
Mortar, etc.) in diff erent scenarios:

  • military battlefi eld
  • force protection
  • campaign against terrorism
  • humanitarian mine clearance.

Skills

  • Experimental and theoretical
    laser-material interaction study
  • Laser parameter optimization according
    to the envelope type and the nature of
    the explosive
  • Modelisation of laser-material interaction
  • Metrology of fast phenomena.

Facilities

  • Large laser park (pulsed and continuous
    wave laser from a few watts to tens of
    kilowatts, visible and infrared sources)
  • Simulation codes
  • Test facilities (proving ground allowing
    work with explosive quantities up to 6 kg).
