For immediate placement, we are currently looking for a Research Engineer in high power laser systems (m/f/d).

 

Field of activity

The group RIM (Radiation Interaction with Matter) investigates the terminal effects of laser weapons and develops related protection devices. The group has strong technical and theoretical expertise in military optronics, especially in the field of laser-matter interaction.

 

Your new tasks and responsibilities - challenging and future-oriented:

  • Develop experimental setups with high power laser systems
  • Characterise spatial and flow properties of laser beams
  • Implement radiation metrology tools
  • Investigate the vulnerability of materials and components to laser attacks
  • Analyse experimental data
  • Communication and exploitation of research works
  • Provide preventive maintenance and service for laboratory tools
  • Occasional supervision of technical staff and interns

 

Your qualifications – solid and appropriate:

  • Master's engineering degree or equivalent in photonics or solid-state physics
  • Use precise scientific methods, show curiosity, able to focus on the big picture. Apart from your academic knowledge in physics, optics and materials science in the field of optics, your are able to use instrumental informatics (LabVIEW for instrument control)
  • As a successful team player you possess good communication skills and have a good command of French and/or German
  • Knowledge in the following areas is required:
    • Lasers and their components, specific materials in the field of optics
    • Laser safety
    • Optics and/or multiphysics simulation tools (Zemax, Comsol)
    • Spectroscopy and thermal imaging
    • Military optronics
