For immediate placement, we are currently looking for a Research scientist in modeling and control for flying vehicles (all genders) for the GNC group (Guidance, Navigation, Control).

 

Your new tasks and responsibilities - challenging and future-oriented:

  • Documentary watch on suitable control methods
  • Application of modelling and system identification methodologies to flying vehicles and their subsystems (actuators, sensors, aerodynamics)
  • Participating in wind tunnel tests and/or free flight tests for data acquisition and control law validation
  • Adopt and extend existing models and control laws, design new control laws for innovative concepts
  • Maintain and update Matlab/Simulink-based tools for control
  • Implement and validate control laws with ISL simulators and experimental means
  • Disseminate scientific work at scientific conferences and in peer-reviewed journals
  • Supervision of engineers, PhD students and interns

 

Your qualifications – solid and appropriate:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent and PhD in automatic control applied to flight mechanics, signal processing, aerospace engineering, system identification or related
  • Knowledge in the following areas is required:
    • Linear, optimized and robust/H-infinity automatic control
    • Aircraft flight mechanics, modelling of aerospace vehicles
    • Solid experience with the Matlab/Simulink environment is required
  • A first experience involving the application of control methods to complex systems including experimental validations and/or aerospace system identification (based on wind-tunnel or flight data measurements) would be very much appreciated
  • Ideally, you are experienced in the following areas:
    • Guidance of flying vehicles
    • RC model airplane/quadcopter construction and flying
    • System identification for control
  • Good communication skills: You like to work in a team, take initiatives, are a good organizer adapting easily to new situations.
  • Very good command of English. A good command of French and/or German would be an advantage.
