"Fabrique Défense" 2022

The 2022 “Fabrique Défense” (LFD) job fair took place from 28th to 30th January in “La Grande Halle de la Villette”, an exhibition centre in Paris.

Present in both the Innovation area on the stand of AID as well as in the air / land exhibition area on the stand of the French Army & GICAT, ISL presented two innovations: a new functional model of its railgun naval application and its image-based navigation technology embedded on a terrestrial robotic platform.

It was with great pleasure that ISL welcomed a number of VIPs. On Friday afternoon, January 28th 2022, the French Minister of the Armed Forces Florence Parly together with the French Minister of National Education Jean-Michel Blanquer discovered the naval application of the “railgun” by firing a shot.

Using electrical energy instead of propellant powder, the electromagnetic railgun launches hypervelocity projectiles at a speed of 3000 metres per second (Mach 8). This permits ballistic trajectories to reach very long ranges (more than 200 km). This anti-air defence railgun technology is thus capable of protecting the armed forces against new threats, such as hypersonic missiles.

At European level, ISL is the only player to master electromagnetic artillery technologies. Leader of the PILUM project, ISL is conducting a PADR study along with 7 partners from 4 different countries. The aim of this study is to prepare the development of an operational demonstrator to be used on a shooting ground as of 2028.

In the air / land exhibition area, ISL was present with a meeting Human Resource space and a Europe space presenting ISL and its European ambitions, illustrated by its research activities and European projects.

In summary, the presentation of ISL at this job fair was completely in line with all three aspects of the 2022 LFD edition: innovation, Europe and youth. Under the motto “Building the European defence of tomorrow”, this event brought together all major stakeholders from the defence sector.
