Dans le domaine de l’énergie pulsée et de ses applications, l’ISL se distingue par des activités de recherche fondamentale et appliquée de renommée mondiale. Dans la communauté scientifique le terme d’énergie pulsée désigne la génération et l’utilisation d’impulsions électriques de l’ordre du GW et plus. Ces niveaux de puissance ne sont pas monnaie courante dans le monde de l’ingénierie civile. Ils sont notamment utilisés dans le cadre de la fusion par confinement inertiel.
Parmi les applications d’énergie pulsée étudiées à l’ISL, on retrouve l’accélération électromagnétique. Nous disposons de plusieurs installations permettant d’accélérer des masses macroscopiques à plus de 3000 m/s. Ce n’est donc pas peu de dire que la recherche dans ce secteur est fascinante. Les installations de notre institut sont uniques en Europe.

Nous recherchons dès que possible un Chercheur en accélération électromagnétique (H/F).
Vos missions / activités
- Vous ferez partie d’un groupe de recherches d’horizons différents travaillant à la pointe de la recherche expérimentale
- Vous mènerez des études scientifiques sur des aspects spécifiques (ex. métrologie) cruciaux pour faire avancer la technologie du lancement
- Vous développerez des modèles et réaliserez des simulations numériques pour des composants spécifiques
- Vous travaillerez sur des projets et rédigerez des rapports et publications en anglais
Votre profil
- Vous êtes titulaire d’un doctorat scientifique (PhD) en Physiques, Génie électrique, Génie mécanique ou domaines similaires
- Des connaissances dans le domaines de l’énergie pulsée seront considérées comme un atout
- Le travail scientifique et les développements techniques vous passionnent
- Capacité à communiquer et à travailler en équipe, esprit d’initiative, sens de l’organisation et faculté d’adaptation
- Vous disposez d’un bon niveau d’anglais à l’oral comme à l’écrit

Das Deutsch-Französische Forschungsinstitut Saint-Louis (ISL), im Dreiländereck Deutschland – Frankreich – Schweiz, ist eine international anerkannte und in einem globalen wissenschaftlich-industriellen Netzwerk verankerte Forschungseinrichtung.
Das ISL führt international anerkannte Grundlagen- sowie angewandte Forschung auf dem Gebiet der Hochleistungsimpulstechnik durch. Dieses Fachgebiet umfasst die Erzeugung und Anwendung elektrischer Hochleistungsimpulse im Gigawatt-Bereich und darüber. Hochleistungsimpulse in dieser Größenordnung werden im zivilen Ingenieurwesen selten eingesetzt. Sie werden z.B. für Trägheitsfusionsverfahren benötigt.
Ein Anwendungsbereich der Hochleistungsimpulstechnik im ISL ist die elektromagnetische Beschleunigung. In mehreren Anlagen können makroskopische Massen auf mehr als 3000 m/s beschleunigt werden. Für Aktivitäten auf diesem faszinierenden Forschungsgebiet stehen Ihnen im ISL Anlagen zur Verfügung, die in Europa einzigartig sind.

Für unsere Gruppe ERG (Elektrische Beschleunigung) suchen wir zum nächstmöglichen Zeitpunkt eine/-n Wissenschaftler/-in auf dem Gebiet der elektromagnetischen Beschleunigung (m/w/d).
Ihre Aufgaben
- Als Teil einer Forschungsgruppe, die sich aus Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern mit unterschiedlichem Background zusammensetzt, arbeiten Sie an der Spitze der experimentellen Forschung
- Sie wirken mit an spezifischen (z.B. meteorologischen) wissenschaftlichen Untersuchungen, welche die Beschleunigungstechnologie voranbringen
- Sie entwickeln Modelle und führen numerische Simulationen an spezifischen Komponenten durch
- Sie arbeiten an Projekten und verfassen Berichte und Veröffentlichungen in englischer Sprache

- Sie haben in Physik, Elektroingenieurwesen, Maschinenbau o.ä. promoviert
- Kenntnisse auf dem Gebiet der Hochleistungsimpulstechnik sind von Vorteil

Scientist in the field of electromagnetic acceleration (m/f/d)
The French‐German Research Institute of Saint‐Louis (ISL) situated in the border triangle of Germany, France and Switzerland is an internationally renowned research institute belonging to a global industrial and economic network.
At the ISL, we perform fundamental and applied research in the field of pulsed power and its applications on world-class level. In the community, the term pulsed power is used for the generation and application of electrical power pulses in the range of GW and more. Such power levels are rare in civil engineering. They are needed for instance for inertial confinement fusion.
One of the applications of pulsed power we study at our institute is electromagnetic acceleration. We have several installations allowing to accelerate macroscopic masses to more than 3000 m/s. It goes without saying that research in this field is quite fascinating. In Europe, the installations at our institute are unique.

For immediate placement, we are currently looking for a Scientist in the field of electromagnetic acceleration (m/f/d).
Your new tasks and responsibilities – challenging and future-oriented
- You will be member of a research group consisting of people with different backgrounds working at the front line of experimental research
- You will engage in scientific investigations of specific aspects (e.g. metrology) being important to bring forward the launch technology
- You will develop models and perform numerical simulations on specific components
- You will work on projects and write reports and publications in English
Your qualifications – solid and appropriate
- You hold a completed scientific degree (PhD) in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or comparable fields
- Knowledge in the field of pulsed power is advantageous
- You are passionate about scientific work and technical developments
- Good English in spoken and written form complete your profile. Good command of French and/or German would be considered as an advantage but is not mandatory
- You have good communication skills: You like to work in a team, take initiatives, you are a good organiser adapting easily to new situations
